Whidbey Half Day Kayak Adventures, aka “The Real Deals with Seals”

Explore kelp beds and bays, spy seals and eagles, and enjoy some beach-combing too!  Our half-day adventures are for those who want a leisurely paddle, lasting memories, and more time to enjoy the beauty of Whidbey Island and its coasts. They are also a great way to get off the beaten path and explore some of the quieter corners of island.

We begin these adventures from a couple of our most favorite launches on the island, all with ample parking, public restrooms and picnic facilities.   The paddling is scenic from all 3 spots with mountain views, rural coastlines and lots of wildlife.  We'll paddle for an hour or two and then spend some time ashore midway to stretch our legs and have some snacks. We always begin with a water safety discussion and a review of paddle stroke technique.  We only run one of these each day, so we can be flexible and add in more beach breaks, and more paddling.

Our guides will give you instruction, help get you comfortable in your kayak, and will educate and entertain you all while keeping you safe. More importantly, they will keep you safe by constantly monitoring the wind and the currents while you are on the water for a prolonged period of time. They also know the best places for beach breaks ;).

The Tours & Their Launch sites:

  • Possession Point Adventure launches from Possession Beach Waterfront Park in Clinton (map)

  • Saratoga Passage Adventure launches from our headquarters in Langley, 201 Wharf Street (map)*

  • Penn Cove Adventure launches from the Captain Coupe Park in in Coupeville (map)

Sometimes wind speed and direction will force us to move the tour from one location to another, but we'll be sure to let you know if you have an advance reservation.

Days and times:
They vary for each launch site due to tides. We do this so you aren’t paddling against the current both ways.
Duration:
Usually between 4-5 hours. Let us know in advance if you have any time restrictions.
What is Included: All paddling and safety equipment including kayak(s), lifejacket, paddles, and your guide. We also provide waterproof cellphone cases that fit most phones. We‘ll pack plenty of healthy snacks and extra water so you can refill your bottles. We also provide dry bags so you can take any extra clothing or gear that you require.
What To Bring: A bottle of water, sun & eye protection such as sunglasses and/or a hat with a brim. Avoid cotton, like jeans and sweatshirts. Synthetic, athletic clothes work best and shoes that can get sandy or wet. Bringing an extra top layer, like a rain jacket or a fleece, is a good idea. Many of these beaches have rocks and broken shells, so be sure to wear a sturdier sandal or a pair of old sneakers; flip flops are not a good idea. Heavy shoes or boots are not recommended since most of our kayaks have rudders controlled by foot pedals. If you have a pair of binoculars, bring them!
Weather: We will not cancel tours or give refunds if it is merely showery or lightly raining. Since our 1/2 day adventures happen over a period of many hours, the chance of encountering weather increases. Bring a rain jacket or rent a paddle jacket from us for $10.

We offer all of our Half Day Adventures as group and private tours.

Half Day Adventure Group Tour Pricing: $125 per paddler, plus WA State sales tax. We use tandem kayaks for all of our group tours. We must have a minimum total of 4 guests to run a Whidbey Half Day Kayak Group Adventure.  If there are fewer than 4 people, we reserve the right to ask guests to reschedule or to pick another tour.   We use tandem (2-person) kayaks on our group tours. **For groups of odd numbers, one of your party will be asked to paddle a single kayak, due to COVID-19.

Half Day Adventure Private Tour Pricing: Up to 4 people, is $600 plus tax and fees. Each additional person is $75. Group can opt for single kayaks, tandems or a combination of both. Lunch, with sandwiches/wraps and sides, is included. Guide to boat ratio is 1:4.

Children and Our 1/2 Day Adventures: Our half-day adventures are wonderful family experiences, but we recommend that kids are at least 10 years old, if not a bit older, like 12. If you children are younger than that, or have a somewhat short attention span, consider one of our shorter Langley marina tours, or a rental. Also, each child under the age of 16 must share a tandem/2-person kayak with an adult. If you are a single adult with 2 children, we ask that you find another adult family member or friend to join you on tour before you make your reservation.
