Are You Experienced?
If you are an experienced sea kayaker, you may rent tandem or single kayaks for the whole day or over multiple days. But before you consider this option, you should know that the waters around Whidbey are prone to strong currents, large tides, and fluctuating wind and weather. For those reasons and for your safety, we require our kayak rental customers to have a significant amount of prior paddling experience. You will need to have practiced self-rescue skills. We love it when you can provide us with some form of proof, such as a certificate or letter, from your instructor or school where you learned these techniques.
We do not accept full day rental reservations online because we want to talk to you first, so please give us a call at 360.221.0229. Be prepared to tell us your experience level, your past sea kayaking experiences, the self-rescue techniques you are adept at, your proposed paddle route, and the tidal and weather research you have already done.
Hourly Rentals at the Langley Marina
If you don’t have the experience required to rent a kayak on your own for a full day, consider paddling in our monitored paddle area from our headquarters at the Langley Marina. The paddle area extends for about a mile along the shoreline and takes most people 1 - 2 hours to do a roundtrip. All hourly rentals on a first come, first served basis. Most people only rent for an hour so wait times are usually very short.
Summer Rental Shop: Our rental shop is open 7 days a week, 9:00 am until 7:00 pm, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Last rental goes out at 5:30pm. Rentals are done on a 'first come, first served' basis.
Spring and Fall Rental Shop: We open the shop on nice weekends in the spring and fall, but it's best to give us a call before coming down. We will rent during the week as well, especially with advance notice and a deposit payment. Last minute rentals are possible, but not guaranteed.
November and December: we are closed these months.
Our Kayak Rental Fleet
Our kayak rental fleet includes fiberglass singles and tandems from Easy Rider and tough plastic singles from Sweden's Point 65. All of our rental boats are 'sit inside' kayaks that are very stable and 'beamy.' All of our rental kayaks come equipped with rudders that make them easy to steer.
Stand Up Paddleboard Rentals
Come join in the fun and try the fast-growing water sport of stand up paddleboarding (SUP). SUP is fun, easy and has a quick learning curve. SUPers enjoy the excellent views of crabs walking along the bottom of the ocean and fish swimming underneath your board. SUPing can provide both a great core workout and the opportunity to relax right on the water.
We love our SUPs! Our SUPs are from Liquid Shredder who makes 'softboards' which are high-performing boards with firm foam and vinyl that are softer and safer than traditional fiberglass or plastic boards. The model we carry is luxuriously long at 12 feet and the pointed bow is perfect for handling the chop of Whidbey's seas and lakes.
You will want to dress to get wet. On colder days, a wet suit is recommended. On milder days, shorts and rash guard or athletic (non-cotton) T-shirt are appropriate. Remember, the water is always cold in the Puget Sound. Our monitored paddle area is perfect for SUPs.
Our Rental Rates
Our rental prices include all equipment -- kayaks/SUPs, paddles, sprayskirts, PDFs, and self-rescue equipment --and reflect the high quality of our boats and SUPs.
We will deliver and pick up kayaks and SUPs for full day and multiple day rental anywhere south of Greenbank, by appointment, an additional $30 per load.
