Hourly Rentals at the Langley Marina
Hourly kayak and stand-up paddleboard (SUP) rentals are available at our headquarters at 201 Wharf St. @ the Langley Marina.
Our monitored paddle area extends for about a mile along the shoreline and takes most people 1 - 2 hours to do a roundtrip.
Although we keep an eye on our rental paddlers in our monitored paddle area, IT IS NOT a sheltered area and is subject to wind, tides, and currents. We highly recommend one of our guided tours if you are inexperienced.
Once you’ve checked in, a staff member will take you to the beach and will provide an orientation that includes fitting you comfortably in the kayak, defining our paddling area, providing safety information, and identifying any hazards.
For groups of 4 or more, renters will be asked to identify a ‘trip leader’ who will be responsible for keeping their group together on the water and returning all gear once they are done.
We require that renters bring at least one cell phone with them on the water so that they have a way of communicating with us or any authority in case of emergency. We will provide a waterproof case.
All hourly rentals on a first come, first served basis.
Spring and Fall Rental Shop: We try to always have a staff person on call and available for hourly rentals, but we are not always on the premises. Please call us at 360-221-0229 and advance notice is very appreciated.
Summer Rental Shop: Our rental shop is open 7 days a week, 9:00 am until 7:00 pm, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Last rental goes out at 5:30pm.
Hourly Rental Prices:
TANDEM KAYAK: first hour $45, each additional hour $35*
SINGLE KAYAK: first hour $35, each additional hour $25*
STAND-UP PADDLEBOARD: first hour $30, each additional hour $20*
*After the first hour, we will round to the 1/2 hour.
Full Day and Multi-day Rentals
We offer full and multi-day rentals of tandem kayaks, single kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards.
But before you consider this option, you should know that the waters around Whidbey are prone to strong currents, large tides, and fluctuating wind and weather. Whidbey Island Kayaking reserves the right to refuse to rent if we do not have confidence in your trip plan and/or safety precautions.
Our tandem rental kayaks are extremely stable, sit-inside fiberglass boats with rudders that are almost 18 feet long and weight 85 lbs. They are perfect for paddling along Whidbey’s coastline during the day. Our rental singles are sit-inside, 16 ft, 50 lbs, roto-molded polyethelene kayaks with bulkheads and rudders. Our stand-up paddle boards (SUP), made by Liquid Shredder, are very stable and great for beginners at 12 feet long and 3 feet wide.
We provide lifejackets, paddles, sprayskirts (if requested), a bilge pump and a paddle float with all rentals.
Full Day rental fees are calculated on the calendar day; not by 24 hr period. For example, if you pick up at noon on Tuesday and return it at noon on Wednesday, that is a 2-day rental.
All full-day renters must have their own car rack system and straps in order to transport our equipment.
You may have rental equipment delivered and picked up anywhere south of Greenbank for $40.
We require a 50% deposit for full day rentals. The deposit is refundable up to 48 hours prior to date of your rental.
Day Rental Prices:
TANDEM KAYAK: $100
($80 for each additional day)
SINGLE KAYAK: $80
($60 for each additional day)
STAND-UP PADDLEBOARD: $70
($50 for each additional day)
Note: We do have a few expedition-style tandems and singles with water-tight bulkheads that are great for multi-day paddles with room for stowing camping gear. We may consider renting them if they are not needed for our longer tours or our guides. However, there would be a $25/day per boat additional charge if they are available. Please call us to discuss.
